5 Fun Things To Do When It's Raining

With the arrival of January and the New Year, the weather has well and truly settled into being cold and rainy. But that doesn't mean you can't still get out and about, and have a good time with your little ones! All you need is the right clothing and footwear for them, and you can still have just as much fun when it's raining as you would when it's sunny. Luckily, we have plenty of waterproof coats, all-in-ones and boots to keep your children dry and cosy, whatever the weather! Keep reading to discover our favourite rainy day activities for kids, and let us know if we've missed anything.

1. JUMP IN PUDDLES

Kids LOVE jumping in puddles, and as long as they're wearing the right footwear then they won't get absolutely soaked while doing it! All you need is a pair of wellies (or Bogs!) and a big puddle, and you're ready to go. Let's be honest, it won't be hard to find puddles in the UK just now!

2. MAKE MUD PIES

A messy one but a favourite with kids! This will keep them entertained while it's raining, and it's a great way of getting their imaginations working. Mud pies, mud cakes, mud drinks - you'll have a whole mud cafe going by the end of this one!

3. PLAY OUTSIDE WITH BATH TOYS

Bath toys are perfect for taking outside when it's raining as they're already designed to go in water, so you don't have to worry about your little ones ruining their favourite toys. We have a fab selection of bath toys and games that children can use indoors and outdoors, all of which are designed to help with learning and development.

4. GO ON A NATURE WALK

Any activity that gets kids learning about nature is fab, and it doesn't have to be a sunny day for you to get out and about with them. Wrap up warm with lots of layers and waterproof gear, and head out on your favourite walk. You could set challenges or ask little ones to collect things like leaves and sticks for using in crafts later on.

5. RACE STICKS OR LEAVES

This is a fun one for toddlers especially! Find a stream (or any running water) and drop leaves and twigs in to race them. A bit like Pooh Sticks but you don't need a bridge!

KEEP THEM WARM & DRY

The most important thing when getting out and about when it's raining is to make sure your children are wearing the right gear - our Frugi coats are always a winner, and are perfect for wet weather. In terms of footwear, our Grass & Air wellies are hugely popular; they change colour when they get wet so are a hit with kids and adults alike! If you wanted something a bit warmer, Bogs are insulated as well as being 100% waterproof. They're perfect for this time of year when it's cold and damp!
